War&Words

The significance of the 1914-1918 war, in both political and social terms, still lives with us today. A series of events, organized by our partner organisations, recaptured the spirit of those times and explained the long-term influences of this momentous period in history. Events specific to Surrey – and linked to the global picture – featured key players, events and dates and unsung heroes and heroines. Exploring the impact of the war on art, literature, music and society in general.
This commemorative programme is going to run for the next five years until the anniversary of the signing of the peace treaty in June 1919. Surrey County Council aims to provide a wide range of cultural activities of interest to everyone and hopes you will join venues across the county.
